   HISTORY OF    Indian Institute of Advance Studies   (iias shimla) Indian institute of advanced studies (IIAS) is a research institute based in Shimla. Also known as Viceregal Lodge or 'Rashtrapati Nivas'. From 1823 onwards for some six decades the Governors and later Viceroys of India had shuttled from one unsuitable residence to another during their summer sajourns in Shimla. It was Lord Lytton (1876-80) who chose observatory Hill for constructing the building. When the Viceregal Estate passed into the hands of the President of India after 1947, the spectacular building was renamed as 'Rashtrapati Niwas'. In 1964 it was set up by the ministry of Education,government of India as the Indian Institute of Advanced studies. And it started functioning from 20 Oct. 1965. RENUKA LAKE Renuka lake  is in the Sirmaur district of himachal pradesh in india . It is the largest natural lake in himachal pradesh, with circumference of about 3214 metres .  Renuka lake is in the 672mtrs. above the sea level.  A zoo is there at renuka . This lake was named after the godess renuka.
